Green Communities - Green Communities is the first national green building program focused entirely on affordable housing. Launched by Enterprise in fall 2004, Green Communities is designed to help developers, investors, builders and policymakers make the transition to a greener future for affordable housing. www.greencommunitiesonline.org
Affordable Housing Programs - Raters and energy auditors might want to check with their local HRDC - Housing Resource Development Council - or local HUD office or the local Housing Development Corporation because all of these offices are focused on affordable housing and are now also focused on energy efficiency. Energy bills are often too high for affordable housing residents. Many times these agencies are looking for energy professionals to work with the builders they support. Also check with your local CHDO - Community Housing Development Organizations - or CDC (Community Development Corporation). You will likely have to use Google or another search engine to find your local affordable housing organizations.
Green Streets - Promoting alternative transportation.
Home Star - At the time of this writing - October 31, 2010 - the Home Star program is stalled in congress. Please check the forums on this website for updates or, if you are a member of ARN, then you will also find updated information on the ARN Members-only website.
PACE - The PACE (Property-Assessed Clean Energy) program for residential projects is, for all practical purposes, dead. Unless you've been on a remote island you already know that the PACE program was starting to roll-out nationally until the 'hold on' directive was issued by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Some locales are trying to start-up a PACE-type program for small commercial buildings with limited success. Updated information about PACE can be found in the forums section of this website.
